John Burns
Sales Director, Entertainment Films
John Burns has worked in the UK film business since 1958. Starting his career at Warner Bros in Wardour Street in the publicity department, following the merger with Pathé in 1960 he moved to Rank working in administration transferring to sales.
To try a different path, John left Rank in 1967 to be the manager of a toys and nursery shop in Islington, but the film industry by this time was in his blood. Returning to the business in the early 70’s John worked with MGM / EMI until 1977 followed by a second term at Rank in the theatres division as film booker.
The next 10 years saw John working with Mark Associates, ITC, Star Associated, a third session with Rank finally joining Entertainment Films in 1987 where he is the sales Director today.
Married for 42 years to Pauline John has grown up children and grandchildren, he is currently writing a book about his life in the industry which is expected to be published next year.
